Trusting Their Inner Voice: Teaching Kids About the Power of Intuition
That Feeling You Feel Deep Inside
Do you ever get a feeling deep within, that you should or shouldn’t do something? Do you ever get an idea for a creative project out of nowhere? Are you ever deep in meditation and envision something new and exciting? These are all examples of intuition. It’s an inner voice that’s there to guide you through life. It’s inside all of us. People often forget about it or the world overshadows it. The world is so fast-paced and we have access to so much information that our intuition gets lost. Our intuition is our connection to ourselves and the world around us. We must not get lost in the crazy outside world. We must maintain a deep connection to ourselves. Your intuition is your souls voice. Your soul came to this world to be happy and fulfilled. The more you follow your intuition the closer you will get to inner peace and your purpose.
The Importance Of Children Discovering Their Intuition
The modern world leaves little to no room for children to just be. They are so busy with school, after-school activities, planned outings, play-dates, classes, video games, TV etc. Years ago children were left to use their imagination, explore, play with boxes, and be bored. The time they had to just be was endless. When one of my kids tells me they are bored I celebrate. I respond by telling them to use their imagination. Imagination and intuition are strongly connected. They work together to send ideas and messages from the soul. The soul’s main way to speak to us is through these two things. But we cannot hear them speak to us if we don’t shut off the noise and slow down. When children are constantly busy, distracted and always on the go they have no room to listen to their deep inner knowing and guidance. How will they ever become who they are meant to be if we don’t give them space to listen?
Slow weekends are something we’ve been doing for a couple of years. This means we either spend the entire weekend or one day completely slowing down. We let the kids play all morning in their PJs. We have nothing on the calendar. We will head down to the river and for a walk but otherwise, we just let the day flow naturally with no rushing or plans. It gives us all a chance to quiet the outside world and let the busyness go. I highly suggest trying it. Kids can be kids and adults can let their minds wander. We go into the week feeling rested and more connected to each other.
As much as I try to keep our lives slow there are still things I cannot control. I speak to my kids all the time about intuition. I tell them there’s something inside them guiding them. If they allow it, it will carry them through life. It’s amazing to hear their stories about their intuition. My two girls can give me so many examples of times they followed it and other times they didn’t. They always see the lesson when they decide not to follow it.
Easy Ways To Teach Kids To Find And Follow Their Intuition
Pause before you make a decision. Take a breath. What is your body telling you.
Allow kids to make more decisions and take the lead. This will foster independence, trust and confidence that they hold the answer to their questions. This will show them that they can lead their life.
Free time/quiet free time will allow their inner voice to speak to them. This will allow kids to be free to create their own world of fun and imagination. I can’t recommend this enough.
Free play in nature. A strong connection to nature is vital for our physical and emotional health. I believe it’s a basic need that is unmet by society today. It clears our bodies and minds from the burdens the busy world puts on us. Nature opens us up to the spiritual world and allows us to get back to our true selves. If you really stop and disconnect while out in nature you will feel and hear that voice inside you.
Let Us Teach Our Kids What Is Being Forgotten
I feel parents are waking up. I feel we are waking up to the fact that the direction we are going just isn’t working. We are becoming more aware of what our souls need. We are more and more aware of the unseen world. We are waking up to the fact that we are spiritual beings in a physical world. I feel a purpose of mine is to connect parenting to the spiritual world. I hope this inspires you to teach your kids more about what’s inside of all of us. Let us help our kids keep a deep connection to their souls. Let’s not forget. Let’s keep the connection deep.
